Last week my PS2 (which was on) fell about 4 feet from the top of the TV to the ground because I tripped over the controller cord that was strung from the console to my bed. It was dark, I didn’t see it. Normally it doesn’t sit on the TV but below it in it’s own little designated spot. It survived that. The game (GTA:SA) was still running, nothing was broken. This has happened before, but not from this height.
Today, a cat decided to run across the room while I was playing some more GTA: San Andreas and got tangled in the cords, thus pulling it off it’s spot and down again. The cat was still tangled, and next my Nintendo 64 fell from an even higher perch on top of the PS2. It doesn’t stop there, while I was trying to untangle said cat I caused my DVD player to slide off part way and smash into the PS2 as well.
The only damage done from this trauma today is the tray wouldn’t open. I went to change San Andreas with Devil May Cry 3 and noticed the blue light would blink, but the tray won’t open. I was having problems before–the tray would make clicking noises when opening as if it were barely on the track (caused from, you guessed it, another fall). A good smack fixed this problem. It surrendered and opened.
All this leads me to believe the Playstation 2 is indeed an imortal piece of hardware. It has been abused and gone through so much trauma since I first got it, yet it never shows signs of problems.
After saying that, I bet it will fall for the last time and never turn on again. D’oh.

yeah the only problem i had with my ps2 that hitting it didnt solve was when the little cd reader thing fell off its track. All i had to do then was open it up and put it back on track. havent had a aproblem since. of course… fixing the game it scratched took a shit load of time.
Just goes to show the PS2 is one fine built machine. I seriously never have problems with it even after trauma.
Although, like in your case pock, my brothers PS2 scratched the hell out of one of his games. He also had it in the vertical position, which is retarded anyway.
Mine has had almost the same stuff happen to it as well. I had it on top of my bookshelf next to my tv, and my dog got tangled in the cords and knocked them both down, with the TV landing on the PS2. All it did was restart.
OMG.
DUDE. That’s fucking crazy Pheldi. Stupid animals. =P
I wish I could say the same about the dreamcast I just bought. Worked for an hour and then burnt down in flames (it stoped reading the discs and goes into main menu).
Moral of the story: cheap can become expensive.
Very good site. Thanks for author!
